Manuela Di Franco is an associate professor of Rheumatology, Department of Clinical Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology and Cardiovascular Sciences, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. She achieved a full Professor National Scientific Qualification (2018-2020) and teaches Rheumatology classes in degree courses for occupational therapists and physiotherapists and in degree courses in Medicine and Surgery, specialization courses and PhD courses. She performed clinical activity first in Internal Medicine Unit and then, since 1992, in Rheumatology Unit, providing assistance activities for either hospitalized patients and outpatients. She is also the administrator of the Early Arthritis Clinic and the Fibromyalgia Clinic of the Rheumatology Unit, Policlinico Umberto I, Rome. Her main field of interest research are autoimmune and rheumatic diseases, chronic and residual pain, early rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. During the years she carried out numerous research and studies regarding some of the main musculoskeletal and rheumatic diseases. She conducted a large quantity of translational and clinical studies in the field of early rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. For a long time she has been collaborating with the Italian Fibromyalgia Network. She led a number of studies designed to find possible biomarkers for fibromyalgia and participated to a recent multi-center Italian study aimed at defining fibromyalgia severity state. For all these years she has participated and/or conducted various research projects supported by Sapienza University of Rome, private foundations and PRIN.
